Planting
Plant a pot-grown speedwell at any time of year, 30 to 60cm apart. Moderate source: Gardeners’ World.
Lift and divide the speedwell
Usually March to May, and September to November. Moderate source: RHS.
Cut the speedwell back hard after flowering
Gardeners call this the Hampton hack.
Almost to the ground, straight after its first flowers. Fresh leaves follow, and often a second flush of flowers.

With a knife, shears or secateurs, cut the stems close to the base of the plant.
