Who we are

PlotHand is run by ENA Enterprises Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17257845), whose registered office is 61 Bridge Street, Kington, HR5 3DJ. We decide how your personal data is used, so we are its controller. We are registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office, registration number ZC164333.

What we keep, and why

We keep only what PlotHand needs to work.

• Your email address. You sign in with a link we email you, so your address is how we know which plot is yours. There is no password.
• Your plants and what you tell us about each one: when it went in, whether you planted seed or a young plant, what kind it is and where it lives. We use them to work out your jobs and when they are due.
• The jobs you mark done, so your list stays right.
• Your Ask PlotHand questions and the answers, so we can answer you and show you the conversation again.
• When you asked each question and what answering it cost us, so we keep to your plan’s monthly allowance and our own budget.
• Which plan you’re on (Garden Helper or Head Gardener), and any pause, so you get what your plan includes.
• A scrambled one-time code while your sign-in link is live, and a session so you stay signed in.

We don’t ask for your name, where you live or any payment details. We don’t use your data for advertising, and we don’t sell it.

Why we are allowed to use it

We use your data to give you the service you signed up for: your plot, its jobs and Ask PlotHand. That is our lawful basis under UK data protection law: it is needed for our agreement with you (the terms).

Counting your questions and keeping sign-in secure are in our legitimate interests: they keep the service working and fair for everyone, and they use as little of your data as they can.

How long we keep it

• Your account, plants and the jobs you marked done: until you remove them or delete your account. Removing a plant removes everything recorded against it.
• Ask PlotHand conversations: deleted 90 days after the last message in each one.
• The record of when you asked each question: until you delete your account.
• A sign-in link works once and for a day. Your session lasts up to 30 days, and ends when you sign out.

Who else handles it

Three companies handle your data for us, only to run PlotHand:

• Railway hosts PlotHand and its database. The servers are in the Netherlands, in the EU.
• Resend sends your sign-in email. It gets your email address and the email itself.
• Anthropic answers your Ask PlotHand questions. We send it your question, the conversation so far, and the facts about the one plant you asked about: what it is, when it went in, whether it is growing yet, what kind it is, and up to 50 of the jobs you marked done on it. We don’t send your email address or your other plants.

All three companies are based in the United States. Your account and your plot are stored in the Netherlands, and your sign-in email and your Ask PlotHand questions are handled in the United States. We don’t use any analytics, advertising or tracking services.

Cookies

PlotHand uses only the cookies it needs to work, so it doesn’t ask you to accept any:

• a session cookie that keeps you signed in (up to 30 days);
• two that last until you close your browser, which protect the sign-in form and remember where to send you after it;
• one that holds the address you typed for 15 minutes, so the sign-in page can show it back to you.

The sign-in email has no tracking image in it.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, to delete it, to limit how we use it, or to object to how we use it, and you can take it to another service. Most of this you can do yourself:

• On your account page, “Download my data” gives you everything we keep about you as one file.
• On the same page, “Delete my account” deletes your account and everything in it straight away.
• You can change or remove any plant from your plot.

What’s free

Garden Helper is free and holds up to 10 plants, this month’s jobs and 10 Ask PlotHand questions a month. Paid plans aren’t on sale yet, and PlotHand holds no payment details. When they open, this notice will say what paying adds before anyone is charged.

If we change what we keep or who handles it, we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
